My Word for 2025

Harmony.
My word for 2025 is one that I want to live and also my longing for the year ahead.
The word harmony originates from the Greek harmos which means “joint.” Other words I associate having similar meaning include balance and symmetry.
Whichever word you employ, it’s one that does not get a lot of run in recent years. And as much as I crave for more harmony at large – my focus this year is on fostering harmony in the ways I can control.
Harmony with my wife.
Harmony with my people.
Harmony with nature.
Harmony in my soul.

This photo was taken during one of my hikes last year along Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail. This is a dry stone wall — where all the pieces are carefully locked together. No cement or mortar needed.
It looks old but it was only recently built by some volunteers last year in an effort to demonstrate and celebrate the building techniques of local settlers 150+ years ago.
Looking at this wall and thinking of the effort involved matches my own romanticized ideals of harmonious living.
Something about it not being perfect, often rough around the edges, yet crafted with purpose and care. Best it feels right at home amongst the surrounding natural elements.
With a bit of intent and a bit of patience there can be harmony. Among humanity, alongside nature, sharing an existence together.
